I must commend you on such a magnificent web site. I bought my first sog S1 bowie when I was 18 years old. I'm about to turn 42 so, I was one of the lucky one's who got an actual serial numbered (1242 out of 1500) original. I also bought first gen tomcat, stingray and tigershark knives. I served with ACo. 3/73Armor 82nd Airborne as a 19D1P Cav Scout during my military service. I carried my sog tomcat through my whole service (including Desert Shield/Desert Storm)and it served me very well indeed. In 1996, I had my knife collection stolen along with all of my sog knives. Not until 2007 did I get the bug to replace a few of my favorite sog models. I searched all over the web for an original S1 bowie. At the time, the S1C bowie had just been released. I promply ordered a new S1C #219 of 1000 but, I still had a desire for the original. I launched the hail mary of internet serches. Being a true scout, I found a small knife shop in Washington state that still had one on display in their shop. It wasen't a numbered copy but, still an original production version with facet tip. (the first numbered versions had no facet tip)I now own an original and a 20year aniversary S1 bowie!! Since then, I have purchased the 2.0 bowie, tech bowie (black), and super bowie variants. After looking at all of the modern tactical knives like Spartan, Zero Tolerance and MOD, I still favor the look and feel of a SOG over everything else!! I guess it's very hard to teach an old dog a few new tricks. |
